Spectrum eliminates 100+ jobs, closing customer call center in Fond du Lac
In total, Fond du Lac will have lost over 500 jobs so far this year
FOND DU LAC — Charter Communications, the corporation that operates publicly as Spectrum, has announced they are closing their Fond du Lac customer call center.
In a notice sent to the State of Wisconsin on Friday, the company confirmed 122 people will lose their jobs at the call center located at 165 Knights Way in the City of Fond du Lac.1 Just four days before, the company had posted a job opening for a Customer Service Representative to work out of the building in FDL. Starting pay for the full-time role was $20 per hour.

The layoffs are permanent according to Kevin Smith, Global Vice President of Human Resources at Charter. In May, Charter Communications laid off 50 workers and in January, the company eliminated 173 jobs at their customer call center near Downtown Milwaukee.
Charter serves customers in 41 states through its Spectrum brand and it’s layoffs are not limited to Wisconsin. Over 1,000 workers at the company’s call centers in California, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas will also be laid off this summer as the company outsources their work to India.23
In total, Fond du Lac will have lost over 500 jobs so far this year. Earlier in June, over 300 workers at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac were informed they would be laid off this summer. The company previously laid off more than 100 employees earlier in the year. According to Mercury, the layoffs are due to softening of consumer demand as a result of continued high interest rates.
