Severe storms topple trees, knock out power in Sheboygan
Unrelenting rain, storms continue to affect Sheboygan County
SHEBOYGAN — Severe storms passed through Sheboygan County early Tuesday morning, knocking out power and toppling trees.
The City of Sheboygan’s Department of Public Works was working to remove the downed trees that blocked streets while crews from Alliant Energy were working to restore power. One city-owned tree fell onto a vehicle and home near South 12th Place and Parkwood Boulevard. Flooding was observed at Riverdale Country Club golf course on South 12th Street near Black River.

Around 3:30 AM, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Sheboygan County. Shortly after 4 AM, the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center began receiving multiple calls of storm damage which included transformers catching on fire and trees falling onto power lines. The National Weather Service also issued a Flood Warning that will remain in effect until Wednesday morning.
Evergreen Park remained closed Tuesday due to flooding. Over the weekend, the City closed the park to vehicle traffic when water from the Pigeon River encroached the road as well as a picnic area. A family that had paid $100 for a park reservation was unable to use the shelter Sunday as it was under water. Some trails are closed in the nearby Ellwood H. May Environmental Park.
So far, this summer is shaping up to be a wash-out. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Sheboygan County recorded its second wettest month of May in 130 years. It has been the sixth wettest year on record so far, receiving over 5 inches more rain than normal. The area has not gone a full week without rain since spring started.
